The UnderSong Top Ten… Songs For Euro 2012

No, it doesn't include Three Lions. Or World In Motion. Look, just read it alright?

I've been feeling inspired by last night's thrilling 1-1 draw between England and... er... yaaaawn...

Sorry, where was I? Oh yes. FOOTBALL. While the game is certainly beautiful, most of the associated music is not. So I've compiled a list of songs that I love that could, in some tenuous way, be linked back to this year's England squad. Warning: Some of the links are very tenuous. I still think it's a cracking playlist. Enjoy!

Frightened Rabbit – Foot Shooter

Now, this song is actually an homage to not being able to keep your gob shut when drunk, which I'm sure has never been a problem for any of our boys. Mainly because some of them have trouble keeping their mouth shut whether drunk or not – yeah, I'm looking at you, Terry. Anyway, let's hope the England team can do plenty of foot shooting of a different kind this tournament.

Vampire Weekend – Walcott

Fairly obvious choice really – this one's for you Theo.

P.S. Props to Mary over at TGTF for reminding me this song existed during the game yesterday.

Fall Walk Run – Built To Last

Less falling, less walking, more running please England. No one likes a diver. I can just imagine this song playing over one of those little videos they play at the end of MOTD.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart – My Terrible Friend

Yeah, those tenuous links I mentioned earlier. This is one of them. Let's face it, after all that Wayne Bridge business, nobody has been in any doubt that our dear Captain is one Terry-ble friend (groan).

Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks

The fact Mark Foster appears in this video in very little clothing has absolutely nothing to do with why I chose this video. Ahem. It's all about the kicks.

Tribes – Corner Of An English Field

Orrrr... English corners in a field. See what I did there?

The Killers – Andy, You're A Star

Now, Andy Carroll might not be everyone's idea of a star, but maybe this'll give him some encouragement out on the field.

Neon Indian – Polish Girl

The competition's in Poland. There'll be lots of Polish girls around. That's all I've got. It might not even be Polish girl, just polish girl. I bloody love this song.

Youngteam – Into Light

Fun football fact: England's squad for Euro 2012 is the third youngest in the competition, with an average age of 26.04 years. This is more than two years less than the average age of the team we fielded in the 2010 World Cup.

Rooney – I'm Shakin'

Ah, Wayne. Get sent off again, and I'm sure there'll be plenty of people waiting to give you a good shaking.

Because it's the best football song of all time, and no I'm not being biased one bit.

Dave Clark Five - Glad All Over
