The UnderSong Top Ten… Songs For The 4th Of July
It’s Independence Day! Calm down, there isn’t a giant alien spacecraft in the sky and we're not about to be subjected to Will Smith’s singing again, thank God. Nope, instead it's all about celebrating the day the United States decided to declare their independence from Great Britain. UnderSong is paying homage by compiling the perfect playlist for our Yankee cousins celebratory barbecues, parades and firework displays. This may get tenuous... you have been warned!
Bruce Springsteen - Born In the USA
All hail the Boss! Their forefathers might not have been born in the USA but the members of the Second Continental Congress were! It's also a poignant reminder of another famous American era of history: the Vietnam War and its aftermath.
Green Day - American Idiot
America’s great, an almost constant source of amusement providing us with so many stereotypes it's hard to choose your favourite. This song references more than a few of them. America also has more than its fair share of Idiots - this one's for you Mr Bush!
Simon & Garfunkel - America
They’re American, the song’s called America and it was featured in what is quite possibly the world greatest film ever, Almost Famous. What's not to love?
Funeral Party - New York City Moves To The Sound of L.A.
Two of America’s greatest cities in one song title, this video features disco balls, tambourines, skater boys and the kind of live performance that makes me want to see them right now.
Walk The Moon - Anna Sun
Because, well, America did Walk the Moon, possibly. Of course there's also an outside chance that it was all just an elaborate hoax set in a downtown LA movie lot...
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication
Keidis’ tribute to the Golden State deserves inclusions for its perfect summary of La La Land. Also the video’s cool as fuck.
Dead Confederate - Run From the Gun
Back in 1861 the Southern states of America decided they fancied going it alone so they formed the Confederate States of America. They had a little war and lost, the Confederate was dead. America also has some pretty stupid gun laws, meaning almost anyone, no matter how unhinged they are can get hold of one. It’s probably a very good idea to run from anyone pointing one at you. Not to mention that this video has a ton of historical and cultural references.
Pearl Jam - Rockin In The Free World
Independence is about freedom right? It also opens with the lyric “There’s Colours on the street, Red, White, and Blue”, that's good enough for me. Also its Pearl Jam live . . . enough said.
Karma To Burn - (Waltz of The) Playboy Pallbearers
Is there anything more quintessentially American than Playboy? ... I think not!!!
Liam Lynch - United States of Whatever
